Why choose a garden room? A quick guide to garden rooms and why they are so popular

As technology has advanced, so has the popularity of working from home and a need for a separate working environment within the property. This can be problematic for some, especially for growing families who need the space for general living.

Garden rooms have been filling this need for extra space for a while now, but these structures are now becoming a popular choice for homeowners who want to add space to their property without sacrificing it in the main house.

Here, garden room specialists Oeco Garden Rooms talk us through some of the benefits of choosing a garden room instead of the traditional house extension or loft conversion.

A multitude of uses

Garden rooms, although traditionally popular as outside offices, are now used for a multitude of different uses.

A home studio, cinema room, chill-out zone to unwind and relax, or simply an all-weather extension of your garden space - the possibilities are endless.

No planning permission

In the majority of cases, garden rooms do not need the usual planning permissions needed to build an extension, but always check with your local authority before starting work in case they have special requirements.

Minimal ground work needed

Concrete pads and heavy-duty steel feet mean that a garden room literally floats above the ground. This means that it can be installed just about anywhere in the garden with a minimal amount of ground work - saving time and money on the build, too.

Custom made

A garden room can be customised to your specific requirements, including full electrics, lighting and heating.

Some of the customised options offered by specialists include soundproofing panels, adding partition walls or fitting a toilet, sink or shower.

Cheaper than the alternatives

Garden rooms are often a lot cheaper than a traditional house extension or loft conversion, and, because it is in the garden, disruption to the main house is greatly reduced.

Quick to build

Because of their prefabricated design, garden rooms can be installed in a matter of days compared to loft conversions and extensions which can take weeks or even months to complete.

All-year-round usage

Just like the main house, a garden room can be used all year round. Specialised insulation means that the structure stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
