Claiming to feature over 700 jobs (including landscape architecture and urban design, as well as architecture), the site is easy to use, with users able to search for jobs by location and role. Users can browse the site's content by category ('professionals', 'products' or 'links') or use the convenient search tool. When it launched, the site described its interface as "a sophisticated online environment built on imagery, speed and simplicity", and it certainly is unusual to see construction-related content presented within an architectural aesthetic. It all looks very professional indeed, with a recent redesign tweaking the category headings to better articulate the site's undoubted value as a resource. [GAS, 15 Sep 2006].

At the moment some section are sparse, but Dexigner could develop into a comprehensive design resource. The site's content is neatly and attractively presented, but has unfortunately not been updated since July 2005. It therefore still features details of the "forthcoming" ELAN 2005 meeting in Croatia are provided, plus information on the ELAN-L mailing list, described as "an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions and provide information, on any topics related to European landscape architecture". A colour-coded menu on the clean and attractive homepage provides access to sections covering External Works, Building Design, Building Services, Interior Design and Environmental Engineering; once inside, users can access over 11,000 illustrated product profiles, featuring specification information and company details. The function to compare and save lists of product selections for use in live or future projects is especially useful. It's easy for a site based around specification information to be dull and stodgy, but ESI.info's lively and well-illustrated pages ensure that the site is lovely to look at as well as an invaluable resource. Essential British Gardens

Essential British Gardens is a well-maintained digest of some of the finest gardens and arboretums throughout Britain. Entries can be browsed by region, although the definition (South Central England, anyone?) and articulation (North Lincolnshire is part of 'North East England', for example) of the regions is rather bizarre - it would be better just to stick to the standard UK regions used by everyone else. However, a search facility is also provided, so finding the garden you want is not too complex. Some of the descriptions are more full than others, but many of the entries do have useful links to related websites, photographs, or other information provided elsewhere. [GAS, 11 Oct 2006].

Part of the Swiss business Euratlas, Europe Photos lives up to its name by presenting more than 500 high resolution pictures of European and Mediterranean cities, landscapes, islands and landmarks; these can be freely used as long as the discreet 'euratlas' logo included in each photo remains in place. Places covered include Armenia, Austria, Brussels, the Nile Valley and Red Sea in Egypt, Northern and Southern France, Georgia, Northern and Southern Germany, Greece and the Greek Islands, Hungary, Northern and Southern Italy, Morocco, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and Ukraine. With its particularly strong coverage of lesser known east European countries, Europe Photos is undoubtedly an interesting and useful resource. However, while certain images are of excellent quality - notably some of the Swiss and Italian pictures - others are rather disappointing in terms of their composition, colours, clarity or lighting. The Gardenvisit.com Gardens Guide reviews places of interest to gardeners: properties open to the public, historic estates, botanic collections, websites, hotels, design studios, nurseries and product suppliers. It describes 1000 parks and gardens open to the public in Europe and America, organised by country and (in the UK) by county, with useful information such as opening times, although it is not clear whether this information is up-to-date. This site is impressive in its coverage - there is a section of diagrams covering different historic styles of garden design, with links to examples of gardens influenced by that style; a history of garden design; and an index of garden designers. On the downside, the site's design is dating really badly, and the quality of images is poor. Gardenvisit.com remains a useful site for garden historians and garden visitors alike, but an improved appearance and interface would help do full justice to its impressive content. Led by the GEsource team at the University of Manchester, GEsource is a free online catalogue of over 8,000 high quality Internet resources in geography and environmental science (including many resources relevant to landscape architecture, transport, sustainability, and the built environment in general). Resources are selected, catalogued and indexed by researchers and other specialists in their respective fields. The site itself is well-designed and easy to use - visitors can browse by category or search the whole database, while the level of information given about each featured resource is impressive. Elsewhere, the site also boasts a series of 'Feature' sections, including one that draws together resources about a range of natural hazards, and another providing themed timelines that "look at significant dates and events that have shaped the geographical world, from the formation of the Earth to the present day". Some of the gardens' entries are illustrated with good quality photographs - hopefully more images will be added in due course. Highlights include the Practice section, with an impressive and well-illustrated projects archive; the Education section, with details about becoming a landscape architect; and the Schools section, with a comprehensive listing of landscape schools in the US and worldwide. There is also a helpful links section, featuring organisations, news and publications. The main drawback is that the site is designed using Flash, which can slow things down a bit, and means that an up-to-date browser is essential. Parks & Gardens UK describes itself as "the leading online resource dedicated to historic parks and gardens across the whole of the United Kingdom", and has grown out of the old United Kingdom Database of Historic Parks and Gardens (UKPG) - Sapling.info's very first Site of the Month back in November 1999. The current site is elegant and appealing, as well as being a superb resource - visitors can use the 'Places & People' function to search for records and view images of more than 6,500 parks and gardens, as well as of the people who created and worked in them. There's also a very good introduction to garden history, up-to-date news and events coverage, and a resource area with additional images, maps, plans, and downloadable oral histories about life in and around historic parks and gardens. Meanwhile, an excellent series of articles written by the site's author, John Conti, give Stellasyard.com real value as a resource. The site is well illustrated and benefits from a consistent appearance throughout, though the purple and green interface may not be to everyone's liking. The over-prominent Google ads might also benefit from some reworking - it seems a shame that adverts should dominate each page rather than the site's undoubtedly useful content. The site boasts a large readership who check out the latest news, reviews and recommendations for modern yet green products and services, and who use its directory to help facilitate their buying processes. Tree Hugger is well written and despite the name does not preach at you, but seeks to inform. Coverage is vast, with headings covering accessories, 'almosts', alternative energy, architecture, audio/video, aviation, bathroom, bedroom, bikes, biopolymer, books, botanical, cars and celebrities, through to solar, sports and technology. In addition, there is also a link to Hugg (http://www.hugg.com/) a sister site and green news story harvester. Here, "all posts start out in the queue. Each time a story is Hugged, it climbs the ranks. If a story gets enough Huggs, it jumps up to the front page where it can be seen by everyone who visits". There is also Tree Hugger TV (http://www.treehuggertv.com/), again a sister site, which offers a video version of the web magazine, featuring material produced by anyone who shares Tree Hugger's passions and can operate a video camera.
